Affectionately known on the course as the Grass Chef throughout our Turf Talks featured on social media, Dan brings a mix of science, strategy, and passion to every blade of turf. Under his leadership, our grounds crew is redefining what it means to maintain a golf course with care, for both the game and the planet.

Electric Mowers: A Quiet Revolution 

Gone are the days of noisy, gas-guzzling mowers. Our team has integrated electric mowers into daily course maintenance, significantly reducing emissions and noise pollution. These machines are not only quieter and cleaner, but they’re also more energy efficient, providing a smoother, more serene experience for our golfers and a healthier environment overall. 

Organic Fertilizers: Better for Turf and Earth 

Healthy turf starts with healthy soil. That’s why we’ve committed to using organic fertilizers that support beneficial microbes, promote strong root systems, and reduce harmful runoff into nearby streams and waterways. The result? A vibrant, resilient course that plays beautifully, while being safer for wildlife and the surrounding ecosystem. 

BMPs: Thoughtful Choices, Every Day 

Behind every decision made by our grounds team is a guiding set of Best Management Practices (BMPs). Whether we’re scheduling irrigation, choosing turfgrass varieties, or managing nutrients and pests, we use science-backed strategies to maximize efficiency and sustainability. These practices ensure that our course stays playable, beautiful, and environmentally responsible—even as weather patterns and resource availability change. 

Naturalized Areas: Creating Space for Wildlife 

We’ve carved out naturalized zones across the course, featuring native grasses and wildflowers that don’t require frequent mowing. These areas not only cut down on fuel use and maintenance hours, but they also provide crucial habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. Plus, they add natural charm and ecological depth to the landscape—a win for the environment and aesthetics. 

Ponds and Buffers: Supporting Clean Water and Biodiversity 

Our ponds do more than reflect the sky—they reflect our values. These aquatic habitats are home to frogs, turtles, fish, and countless bird species. Surrounding them, we maintain vegetative buffer zones that act as natural filters, trapping sediment and nutrients before they reach the water. This helps prevent erosion, protect water quality, and sustain the diverse life within and around our ponds.
