Curtis Harder; From Snow to Mow

Like our golf pro Joey, Curtis grew up in New England and has been racing down mountains on a snowboard since he was six years old. As a young boy, he worked hand in hand with his dad who was a custom homebuilder. He credits his dad with his drive and work ethic, and remembers his dad giving him positive reinforcement to keep him motivated. He could also get on his nerves by not putting his dad’s tools back after he used them!

Curtis always dreamed of being an architectural engineer and had a keen eye for design, a passion for science, and a natural ability to play golf. Curtis combined his three strengths which lead him to a career in Turf Grass Science at Delaware Valley University. Do you have any idea the coursework that is required to be a golf course superintendant? Talk about Curtis the mad scientist! His curriculum included biology, chemistry, plant pathology, entomology, agronomy, climatology, and irrigation technology to name a few of the “ologies” that he mastered before joining us at BBCC!

It’s not surprising that Curtis’ favorite sandwich is a Lobster Roll from the Neptune Oyster House in Boston. What is surprising however, is that his favorite cartoon character is the Roadrunner, more specifically, his “meep meep” sound! Sorry golfers… Curtis does not plan on retiring on a golf course but can see himself in a mountain village somewhere out west. So as we begin our golf season of 2018, I am sure that we will still see Curtis on the course until the sun sets.

Located just 25 minutes from Center City Philadelphia and situated in the heart of Blue Bell, Pa., Normandy Farm Hotel and Conference Center is more than a meticulously restored American landmark—it's a fully wired, high-tech hospitality venue. Relax on our grand terrace, sip a cocktail in America's oldest silo, play a challenging game of golf on our championship course, plan an event with us or dine on our delectable farm-to-table cuisine. It all adds up to One Historic Experience.

Really enjoyed reading about Curtis Harder’s unique career path at Blue Bell! His shift from ski slopes to golf course maintenance is fascinating, especially how he tackles Pennsylvania’s tough weather. What strategies does he use to motivate his team? I’ve been sharing sans battle with my golf buddies—it’s a quirky game that sparks fun debates about strategy, much like course maintenance planning.

I started playing Subway Surfers years ago and I’m still hooked. The developers keep the game fresh and exciting with every update.
